Moong daal pakoda

Undoubtedly Indian subcontinent has a population who are taste and food lovers; by crossing any inter-state border, taste changes, people love to try and taste different cuisine. In these pakoras are the some of the great tasting snacks people love to eat in any part of the country.

Moong daal pakoras are one of the most loved snacks for every season in Indian Cuisine; it’s an all-time favorite snack that could be served in the evening with tea with green or tamarind chutney aside. These are basically prepared by soaking lentils for 3-4 hours and mixing everyday herbs or spices.

Moong daal pakoda

Ingredients-

  • 1 cup yellow moong lentils (moong daal)

  • 1 or 2 green chillies chopped roughly.

  • ½ inch ginger, chopped.

  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)

  • 1 teaspoon whole black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds

  • 1/8 cup water or as required.

  • Salt as required.

  • Oil for deep or shallow frying

Steps in Preparation-

  1. firstly, in a large bowl soak 1 cup moong dal for 4 hours.

  2. drain off the water and blend to smooth paste adding ¼ cup water.

  3. transfer the prepared moong dal batter into bowl.

  4. add in 3 tbsp rice flour for crispy vada. add more rice flour if required to get thick batter.

  5. also add 2 green chilli, 1 inch ginger, 2 tbsp onion, 2 tbsp coriander, 1 tsp jeera and ½ tsp salt

  6. further add ¼ tsp baking soda and give a good mix.

  7. now dip your hand in water, and start dropping them one by one to hot oil.

  8. keep the flame in lower to medium stir occasionally.

  9. also fry the vada till they turn golden brown.

  10. drain off the vada on to kitchen towel to absorb oil.

  11. finally, serve moong dal vada with coconut chutney or tomato sauce
