Pregnancy comes with a whole rapid change in a women’s life cycle and proved to be the most crucial part, where she should take care of herself with the living fetus developing inside her. As its one of the most important phases of her life, her body needs healthy changes i.e., from diet, habits, exercises, medications to complete change of day’s routine. As a source of nutrition for fetus growth is just the mother, whatever she eats, drinks, and involves herself to indirectly affect the baby.
During this period, women require food supplements with the nutrition which leads to healthy growth inside. There are several nutrients required like vitamins, calcium, protein, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber, where every nutrient is important hence shows a viable impact during the journey from pregnancy to lactation. Vitamins play an essential role in the development of the fetus, aids in cellular metabolism and structural growth.
One such forgotten vitamin is D3, everyone knows the cruciality of insufficient vitamin intake, but it’s often obscure, as it was only correlated with bone and calcium development but is much more. Vitamin D is also known as the sunshine vitamin, as can be obtained directly from the sun, and in some other external food items naturally. This multifunctional vitamin leads to the skeletal growth of the baby.
The vitamin is mainly found on the foods like salmon fish, beef liver, pork, fortified food but it’s again a hustle for vegetarians or vegans to have the vitamin in abundance.
It’s difficult to have vitamin D alone so better preferred to have a balanced diet, rich in all sources of nutrients, and have a morning routine with sun exposure and yoga or exercise. During pregnancy, an average female needs-
Daily doses of 4000 units/day are recommended for treatment in pregnancy. The use of lower doses of vitamin D, as contained in most prenatal calcium preparations (100-800 IU) cannot be condoned in symptomatic patients, or in those with documented low levels.
